What Mormons Don’t Tell you

I was a Mormon for more than ten years so I can write with confidence about the things that Mormons don’t tell you.

Mormon missionaries knock on your door and they tell you that they believe in God and in Jesus Christ.

They tell that they believe in the Bible and they introduce a couple of names which can be new or not to you. They tell that God restored his church through Joseph Smith and that a proof of that is a new book of scripture called the Book of Mormon.

They invite you to read, pray, go to church and get baptized.

If you accept to get baptized, Mormons will make you think that everything they taught is all there is to know before such an important decision.

5 Things that Mormons Don’t Tell You

These are ten things that you should know that Mormons don’t tell you, specially if you are considering joining the Mormon church.

#1 Joseph Smith Practiced Polygamy

Mormon missionaries and Mormons in general will never tell you in the first few meetings or discussions that besides restoring the gospel of Christ, Joseph Smith also restored the practice of Polygamy.

Joseph Smith married more than 30 women, some of these women worked for the Smiths.

Joseph Smith even married women without having the consent of his wife Emma.

#2 The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is a book which is considered the word of God by Mormons.

You might feel that the Book of Mormon fits since this explains an untold story.

Something that Mormons don’t tell you is that there is no archeological that supports the Book of Mormon as a historical document.

They can find you articles about Mormons claiming to have found archeological evidence but we know that’s just Mormon Talk.

There is no archeological community that supports the idea that the Book of Mormon is a historical document.

#3 Mormons Want you to Get Baptized

Mormons knock on your door, they want to talk to you for the sake of having a conversation among christians.

Mormons want you to join the church, if you read their mission statement in the book they use, you will know that they are there to baptize you.

You can be a very good human being and a christian and Mormons will still insist that something is missing.

This is what God allegedly said to Joseph Smith when he asked them what the true church was.

I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

#4 Plan of Salvation on Steroids

The others religions will tell you that there is a heaven and that God lives there without any details.

Christians don’t know what they are gonna do if they can live for eternity.

So in one extreme we have mainstream Christianity with a promise with no detail and in the other extreme we have Mormons telling you that you have to get married in order to make it to the top heaven.

Mormons also promise that if you are married in their temple and live a righteous life until you die, you will live with God and that you will be able to have spirit children and these spirit children will need a body.

Basically the Mormons won’t tell is that you will become a God if you obey the rules of mormonism.

#5 There was Racism in Mormon History

Some leaders of the LDS church taught that having a black skin was some sort of curse.

The Book of Mormons has their version of how ancient american got their skin color

And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.

And thus saith the Lord God: I will cause that they shall be loathsome unto thy people, save they shall repent of their iniquities.

And cursed shall be the seed of him that mixeth with their seed; for they shall be cursed even with

2 Nephi – Chapter 5

Mormons didn’t let black people to hold the priesthood, the right to minister in the church until 1970.

The official declaration number 2 says the following:

He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come when every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with his loved ones every blessing that flows therefrom, including the blessings of the temple. Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color.

Official Declaration #2

The Mormon Church was founded in 1830 and they had to let 100 years pass to figure out that all men were equal before the God they praise.

#6 Mormons won’t tell you about the Baptism for the Dead

Mormons have some beliefs that go against what most christian believe. One of those odd beliefs is the practice of the baptism for the dead.

Mormons go to temple which are places where they perform rites and ceremonies that only worthy mormons can participate in.

In these temple, mormons get baptized on behalf of people who are deceased and who didn’t accept the gospel of Jesus Christ preached by Mormons.
